How to Choose a Pretend Play Kitchen

!±8± How to Choose a Pretend Play Kitchen

Why choose a pretend play kitchen?

From all of the things you can buy for your favorite girl or boy, why a play kitchen?

First and foremost, it creates interactive play. It encourages imagination. It allows your child to role play and cook like Mom or Dad. This is a great way to play with your child, and a great way for your child to play with friends. And if you choose, you can turn kitchen play into a learning opportunity. Play food can be used to teach about different foods and nutrition. Also social skills can be practiced with serving food and play eating together. What sort of play kitchen do you want? Children's kitchens range from very small toy kitchens to very large and feature full. You can find a single unit kids kitchen, which include many appliances, to multi-piece kitchen play sets with individual appliances. Choosing a play kitchen set depends on the age of the child, your budget and your setting. It also depends on your personal philosophy. Where is that play kitchen made? Is it eco-friendly and made with sustainable manufacturing and fair business practices.

What kinds of play kitchens are available?

Single Unit Kitchens - These play kitchens include many appliances such as a stove, oven, microwave and sink in one unit. These units have a "front" and "back", so that they can be placed against a wall. Typically this style of toy kitchen is either a "assembly-required" wooden kitchen or it is made from molded plastic. A typical large, self-assemble wooden kitchen measures about four feet long, four feet tall, and about two feet deep.

Island Play Kitchen - These are stand-alone pretend kitchens. Children can play on all sides of these kitchens. Island play kitchens also feature various combinations of sink, stove, ovens and microwaves. Toddler kitchens are typically this style.

Complete Kitchen Play Sets  - We are talking about a multi-appliance set here. There are separate toy stoves, toy refrigerators, toy microwaves, toy sinks, and toy dishwashers.

Table Top Toy Kitchens - These are small, typically "two burner" stoves, that are designed with portability in mind. These pretend kitchens can be moved from room to room and be used on a table, shelf or even the floor.

Natural wooden kitchens - These kitchens are made from solid wood and not particle board. Many of the "assembly-required" are made from laminated particle board and are still considered wood by the manufacturer. The natural wooden kitchens are typically made from spruce, pine or cedar. Many of these designs are more abstract in nature. That is they do not offer realistic detail; however, there is no mistaking that these are play kitchens. They usually combine a sink and stove and have moving parts. It is just that the details are left to the child's imagination.

Is my child old enough?

In a word, yes. Well, let's qualify that. Some kitchens also have small parts that may come off and pose a choking hazard for a younger child, so your child should be at least three years old. With a small child it is tempting to get a very small kitchen play set. However, a busy preschooler can quickly out grow the small toy kitchen. On the other hand, if you get a large play kitchen, it might overwhelm a younger toddler. You have to know your child, but you want to plan for growth.

A smaller child may not be able to reach the upper appliances on a large single unit play kitchen. On other units, the stove top or counter height may be too tall for the child to effectively play with the toy kitchen unit. Your choices are three-fold: buy a smaller kids kitchen and patiently wait until your child grows taller. Or, get a little step stool or bench, just like the one you use in their bathroom, to help the child reach everywhere in their kitchen.

Remember, children play with their kitchens for many years, so you probably want to buy a play kitchen as soon as you can and plan for growth.

From what material should the toy kitchen be made?

Wooden play kitchens are sturdy, durable and last for many years. They are less likely to crack, fade or warp as they age. However, assembly may be a challenge if it is a flat-packed unit. Wood makes a sturdy childrens kitchen, but sturdy means heavier and harder to move.

Plastic play kitchens are typically smaller and lighter than their wooden counterparts. They are easier to clean too. However, if the plastic kids kitchen is designed as a wall unit, as opposed to a free standing unit, it could be a tip-over hazard. And just because it is made from plastic, it does not necessarily mean it is cheaper. Nice plastic full featured children's kitchens may be more expensive than many nice wooden play kitchens.

Eco-friendly? Some of the wooden play kitchen manufacturers use sustainable harvesting and use no finish, natural finishes, or low V.O.C water based finishes.

Where are you going to put the play kitchen in your home?

A lot of homes do not have the area to accommodate a large toy kitchen or multi-unit kitchen play set. If you have a play room, multi-unit pretend kitchen set may work for you. If you have the wall space, then a combination single-unit kids kitchen will work. Otherwise consider a play kitchen island or table top toy kitchen.

Once you have decided where the kids kitchen will go, you need to look at the decor of the room. Kitchens come in all sorts of colors, shapes, and patterns, so you should be able to find something that matches or least does not clash with the room.

How long are you going to keep the kitchen?

If your play kitchen is going to hang around for a year or two and then head off to a new home, there's probably no need for a large, heavy, elaborate kitchen. On the other hand, if you intend to keep the kitchen for five or six years or more, you should get a sturdy wooden one that isn't going to fade or crack with time. If the kitchen is to be passed down through a progression of children and perhaps generations of children, a handcrafted, heirloom quality wooden kitchen would fit the bill. Where are you going to put the all the play kitchen accessories? Play kitchens beget play kitchen accessories. There are all sorts of play kitchen toys: pots and pans, small appliances, ovenware, aprons, kitchen towels, utensils, and pretend play food. Some play kitchen sets have more storage than other kitchen play sets. You may want to take that into consideration.

So how are you going to choose?

Decide if your child is ready. You can wait a while if you like. Determine your budget - How much do you want to spend? Kitchens with more features are generally more expensive. Determine how long are you going to keep it -  Sturdy wooden kitchens will last longer. Find a location - Do you have a spot in the house for that large kitchen? And how is it going to look? You need to decide. Determine the storage needs - Is there enough storage for all the play kitchen accessories? (There's never enough :)

Choosing the Best Deck Sealer

!±8± Choosing the Best Deck Sealer

CHOICE OF WOOD SEALING

Contractors are always asking us to recommend a sealant for them, based on our experiences. This has been a challenge for us in a sense, because there are more available than ever before sealing. Years ago we tried every single seal is available, but with the widespread reformulation we have seen in recent years and appear all new products must maintain a hard time with any changes. The complications of the reformulation of a product are obvious, andsome held several times changed the formulation during this short period of time.

Sealants are made of a series of different bases with a variety of additional chemicals. Some snakes make the best kept (application, adhesion, flow, penetration, etc.). Other ingredients just add bulk to help keep the "cost per gallon" down. For example, what purpose the addition of mineral spirits to have a seal? Well, streamline the product to facilitate, promote and play helps seal inwood. The fact that benzene has a very low cost also allows a manufacturer selling price of its product, reducing benzene more easily! Of course, the EPA forced to stop this practice, so some manufacturers are actually falling deck are kept (because they can not keep up).

In any discussion of seals, it should be clear from the outset that there is a perfect product. The universal product we've ever used is prepared for sealingWe used everything from small wooden platforms with success. Unfortuanetly this product is frequently used by employers as a homeowner and there are very few online resource can be purchased. Just search for Ready Seal deck sealer Compart online and this product is definitely worth the time.

OIL SEALS

Sealing rings can be one of several types of oil. Sealing rings can be wall or penetration or a combination of both properties. PurelyCoatings are sitting on top of the wood. Penetration pure and sit under the wood surface. A seal, which means any coating on the leaves is used as a coating of wood, if this is a minor (covering 10%, 90% penetration) or complete (100%) coating. Any product that contains linseed oil, is a film of product formation (coating) at some point. Ready Seal is made of 100% paraffin oil (an oil) and is therefore a complete penetrance.

In general, coatings that cover the defectscracks in the surface or in the work of cleaning. The closer they are a solid color stain, the more they are able to hide errors. You may be subject to wear visible in traffic areas as well. Coatings must be cleared before a new level, because they do not penetrate into new layers of the forest and the bond with her. Most coatings require careful handling because errors such as drips and runs in the final show will work. In other words, you (or your employees) have paintedSkills, so that a coating will be fine when it is new and valuable with age of the wood. Liners may flake and peel over time, if moisture is trapped in the wood.

In general, the penetration is not obscure the error surface as a job badly or washed stains. Penetrating the traffic patterns do not show wear. I usually do not have to recoat the naked along the road, and because the new sealant penetrates the old coat and bond directly to the wood.Applications for full penetration agents are assigned to complete, which means it drops or lap times will be marked not displayed. In other words, less skill required to apply a penetrating product. Full penetration of products are not designed to be as hard coatings, so they are relatively easy if you need to remove streaks.

WATER SEALING

Water-based paints are becoming increasingly popular as homeowners look to their work. These products are sold by big box stores through the dayLines like "cleans with soap and water" - words that are very attractive for the do-it-yourself. Latex and acrylic surfaces make the most of these alternative products. Water-based products are finished filming. Acrylic paints and products are very difficult to maintain and operate.

The inner workings of sealants

Transmission: Sealers are permeable, in order to "breathe" means the wood can be. This means that the normal humidity, it is possibleand let the wood during the normal cycle of day, but they can not fall like rain in the woods. The more pigment the product contains, the less permeable is the seal. A quality-permeable seal allowing SAP to the wood, leaving the seal to pass through, for example.

The colors are not permeable, so paint crack and peel bridges drastically after a short period of time.

Have you ever noticed what happens with latex paint on a window sill? The moisture content of woodtries to escape the sun on the wood and the temperature rises. Since moisture does not pass from these colors, the only natural consequence is that the color repels moisture from the surface of the wood to escape. Why paint and cracked shells. This result is most likely on the window sill (horizontal edge), instead, to cut the vertical window, since the top of a vertical panel usually is not pictured (so that the escape of moisture). That's why we never paint a woodDeck.

Volatile organic compounds: For many years manufacturers throw out terms like "percentage of solids," as a point of sale of their products. Simply put, this refers to the amount of wood product remains after all that has evaporated away. What will evaporate, as "volatile" or "VOC". The EPA has strengthened legislation on VOCs for years, because damage to air quality and ozone depletion. Many sealants have formulate one (or moretimes) in order to meet this change. Each time a manufacturer to change the properties of the formulated product.

VOCs are often simple mineral spirits or turpentine.

NOTE: "High-Solids" does not mean that the product is thick. Ready Seal has the highest solids from the oil seal, which we know (87) and is also one of the finest olive oil you will ever work. It simply does not contain a lot of volumes of VOCs.

Sometimes sealants contain production of products that the manufacturerwants to dispose of benzene. Careful monitoring of the safety data sheet will tell you too much.

Pigment: Pigment is a finely ground, inert, colored powders, used to create the color in your outfit. In most seal hunters, these particles are iron oxides. In seals, is the iron oxide pigment, which gives protection from UV rays. UV rays are removed from the wood of these minute iron particles of paint before they can penetrate the wood and turn it against gray. Over time, the raysthe sun with the oxide particles, and the wood begins to gray again.

Funds transparent, despite the many labels, not effectively prevent graying, because they contain no pigment. If a customer asks for an empty seat, you must educate them. I have always repeated his statement back, but changed the word "clear" to the word "natural." After I tell them, the word "natural" I just asked whether natural or natural cedar Redwood wanted to paint.

LIFE:Most sealers are designed to last for about two years on horizontal surfaces and four years on vertical surfaces. Some say more, some have no rights at all. Customers are usually for the duration of the product you're suggesting, ask, and it is important that you know the answer to this question: "It depends ..." Life depends on the estate, the location of the bridge, the condition of the wood, the weather, the use of the platform, etc. Remember, they are hunters of sealsis never guaranteed, "look good" for any amount of time. You are only guaranteed to sell the water for some time. Manufacturers are notorious for not behind their products. They simply blame the poor implementation by the Contractor and allow you to hold the bag.

Some manufacturers sell "lifetime" or "25-Year," he concludes. These are almost always water-based silicone products. Silicone is an excellent waterproof, and lasts a long time. He can not always be completely removed from theWood later, so that the selection of these products is a final decision. The disadvantage of these products is the protection from UV rays, which are often not in a few years of initial application. Once the wood starts to turn gray, the nightmare begins. If you do not remove the product, how to get the wood to clean it up and add a plus UV protection? There is no answer.

CONCLUSION

Part of the sealant was chosen to factors such as packaging, to help manufacturers, dealers areSupport, availability, exclusivity, colors, etc. The two most important factors that we have been over the years 1) customer satisfaction and 2) easy integration of new employees for their success with their own seal.

Ready Seal has allowed us to teach the techniques of proper seal and send new employees on their own with only 2-3 weeks of work with a person of lead. The training time saved and the repeat business we have generated with Ready Seal of our choice to use the sealrather simple.

Consider some other important factors when thinking about choosing a sealant. Ready Seal has no limitations for the application temperature, which is a great advantage for entrepreneurs. This means that you can use to seal decks and fences, even when the temperature drops to 40 or less! This function is only a few months at your annual cleaning and sealing of the list "season."

The only thing that limits the use of Ready-to seal the moisture content of wood isthis wood.

You do not have to wait because there is a thunder showers expected on the same day, either. It may be less than 15 minutes after mixing Ready Seal without the appearance or protection. That makes a lot of extra days in your new work program, too!

Other seals have their advantages and can be easier to get from a local shop, but Ready Seal can your company in a way that no other product we tested that could change.

Materials for Playground Borders - wood, plastic and rubber

!±8± Materials for Playground Borders - wood, plastic and rubber

When choosing the type of edge that you need a playground, you should consider safety, cost and appearance. Fortunately there is enough material for almost every need playground border. We cover the three best: wood, plastic and rubber.

Wooden Playground Borders

Creosote-treated wood fences, bridges, railroad ties or telephone poles are not recommended for use in playgrounds. Children playing on creosote contaminated soil with more rasheslike children playing on contaminated land is not. Apart from that, have no impact on the health of creosote has been extensively studied in children. In adults, creosote caused respiratory irritation and prolonged exposure to low levels of creosote, coal tar can cause skin damage such as peeling. Direct long-term exposure to creosote skin cancer and cancer of the scrotum related.

In addition, landscape and wooden beams with copper chrome arsenate (CCA) treated asProtection against weather, mold and insects out, but it was made of wood, as before 2004 would still have a high content of CCA, which is dangerous, because the arsenic is in him a well known carcinogen.

Alternatives to CCA treated wood and creosote are treated redwood or cedar, which are naturally resistant to decay and sustainable harvesting. Plastic and wood composite recycled sawdust is another option. With timber ammoniacal copper quaternary (ACQ) and treatedCopper boron azole (CBA) are not known to contain known or suspected carcinogens. These substances may be corrosive metal brackets. Galvanized or stainless steel screws with ACQ and CBA should be treated woods are used.

Plastic Playground Borders

Plastic playground borders because they have no need for maintenance, keep the place freely in the playground surfacing well, and are extremely durable. As a rule, are made from recycled plastic playground TiesPlastic and zinc are used to keep them in place.

Plastic border timbers are molded polyethylene ribs in each hollow wood strength. They are available in lengths of 4 meters and 6 meters, with spikes to secure it on the floor. They are made to withstand harsh conditions and partly to come up to 10-year warranty. These woods are no sharp corners or edges, for an added measure of safety of the playground.

In addition to uses asThe boundaries of areas of loose fill playground, plastic border timbers images well for the sandbox. They can be moved easily if necessary. While the wood in all lengths and widths are available in black, some formats are easily available in blue, green, red or yellow. Different colors can usually be special ordered as well. Some manufacturers offer colored granite and stone borders for a different look.

There are also landscaped recycled plastic with wood jointsSpace for unusual shapes. Although not a good trait for a playground would be built folding edge beams are often shared space for solar lights in the joints.

Rubber Playground Borders

Although not as common as plastic or wooden beams for use in creating a playground for borders, wood recycled rubber hose used to follow the curves in a design that not only the timber in plastic or wood can . They can also be easily cut to size, and are in variousColors.

Cedar and redwood playsets - The advantages of decay-resistant Lumber

!±8± Cedar and redwood playsets - The advantages of decay-resistant Lumber

Redwood and cedar wood have long been used in the construction of park facilities. There are many reasons for this. Both forests provide a natural beauty that comes from any of the other forests. Unfortunately, many people in the market for a children's play is the other advantage is that these forests are. Cedar and redwood are naturally decay resistant to both, that does not rot on contact with moisture, such as other wood does. This gives them a huge advantage over other woods when it comes toplaysets.

Unfortunately demand for redwood and cedar have steadily increased over the years and supply hasn't kept up. ( Japan is the major consumer of premium redwood.) This has caused an increase in prices so many manufacturers have stopped using the product. If you desire a naturally decay-resistant product be sure to look for these woods, they are still being used.

Look for the SFI Label

One way to help is to look for manufacturers who have the Sustainable Forestry Label Initiative (SFI). SFI Inc. is an independent non-profit organization that promotes sustainable forest management. They work with conservation groups, municipalities, resource professionals, landowners, and numerous other organizations and individuals who have a passion for responsible forestry. SFI certification is for the companies that have collected plants 5 trees for each of them, thus helping to alleviate the shortage assigned to show. Visittheir website at www.sfiprogram.org.

If you are in the market for a playset for your children and are concerned about long-term durability of the lumber as well as the beauty of the wood you won't go wrong with a set constructed of either cedar or redwood.
